VICTORY SCRIPTURE

"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me."

(Galatians 2:20)

What Does It Mean

To Think Souls?

Our Lord Savior Jesus Christ came to this earth because He was seeking to save our souls (John 3:16; Matthew 18:11; Romans 5:6-11). All that we may do as the Lord’s church must be centered on saving souls. This is the example that Jesus left for us to follow. ‘Thinking Souls’ is giving ourselves wholly over to helping others. It is the essence of the self-sacrificial love shown to us by God. It removes our pride, greed, and selfishness and pushes ever closer to the likeness of Christ. To effectively ‘Think Souls’ will require of us:

bullet

Sound Biblical Doctrine: We cannot truly ‘Think Souls’ and teach or practice those things which will not enable the lost to be saved. Many unbiblical innovations and teachings in religions today may entice people to join a religious group, but such practices cannot help save those people. Jesus stated that it was the truth that would set men free (John 8:32). That truth is found in the Bible. It was once delivered (Jude 3), it is perfect (James 1:25), and it can save your soul (James 1:21). This sound doctrine being discussed would include the Biblical pattern that a person must follow to find salvation (Hearing (Romans 10:10,15-17), believing (Mark 16:15-16; John 3:16), repenting (Acts 2:38; 3:19), confessing (Matthew 10:32; Acts 8:37), and being baptized (Matthew 28:18-19; Mark 16:15-16; John 3:5; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21)). Sound doctrine also would include worshipping God in the manner in which He has commanded. Worship is about God and never about entertaining our own desires for entertainment or convenience. We are to come together upon Sunday and worship God. This worship is to include singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16 (without instruments)), praying (Acts 2:42), giving (1 Corinthians 16:2), partaking of the Lord’s supper memorial (Acts 20:7), and teaching (Acts 20:7). Sound doctrine would also include a Biblical structure of the Lord’s church. Each congregation should be autonomous with its own leadership. That leadership should be placed with a plurality of men who meet the Biblical requirements to be given the responsibility to be elders of the congregation (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). For specific responsibilities within the congregation, men who meet the Biblical requirements can become deacons on these responsibilities (Acts 6:1-6; 1 Timothy 3:8-10, 12-13), yet under the eldership. The preacher of the congregation is tasked with teaching the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15; 2 Timothy 4:1-4).

bullet

Godly & Moral Living: Jesus said for us to let our ‘light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.’ A moral life is one of the brightest lights that we can shine in our world today. We cannot hope to bring souls to salvation without practicing and teaching (Acts 1:1) Godly and moral living. Too many religious groups are subsidizing immorality and ungodly behavior and therefore they cannot save souls. To ‘Think Souls’ is often hard because we often stand alone on moral issues. These issues include homosexuality, divorce, adultery, fornication, and etc. We stand firmly against these issues because God stands against them in His Word. Standing firm is the only way that we can help people leave such lifestyles and come to salvation in Christ.

bullet

Teach Others: This is the heart of the concept of ‘Think Souls’. We look around us and we don’t see cars, buildings, and trees, we see souls that are lost and in need of the salvation that is only found in Jesus Christ. To ‘Think Souls’ is to be consumed with the desire to teach others and help them to come to salvation. They are driven as the apostles in the book of Acts when they stated that they could not stop speaking about what they had seen and heard (Acts 4:20). Seeking the lost is not just a responsibility, it is a part of our lifestyle and an irresistible drive.

In our lives may we ‘Think Souls’ everyday and may we find every opportunity to reach the lost and bring them to the unsurpassed riches of God’s saving grace.
